‘The Walking Dead’ Set To Launch A Third Series In 2020
2 min readWe surely hope you guys aren’t all zombied out yet. If so, then this will be terrible news to hear. AMC has announced there are plans for a third ‘Walking Dead’ series set to launch in 2020. The show will be set independently from the first two series, and will feature a new set of protagonists and antagonists.
This third series will be created by former show runner and current Chief Content Creator, Scott M. Gimple. Long-time writer/producer Matt Negrete will handle show runner duties for the new show, and production is slated to start this summer, with a tentative premiere date of next year. The story will center around two young women, and will focus on the “first generation to come-of-age” in the zombie apocalypse we all know and love. From that statement alone, it sounds as if we’ll be traveling back in time again and will get to experience the outbreak from the beginning. This time, we may be exposed to a whole new location though, and we’ll also be seeing events unfold from a totally new perspective.
Even though the OG Walking Dead series has been consistently shedding fans, AMC still has faith in the franchise itself. The stories that are told within the Walking Dead universe resonate deeply with fans. Even with series ratings lower than they’ve ever been, the show is still top ranked compared to other programs. It’ll be interesting to see if there’s any more cross pollination between the shows like Lennie James (Morgan) and Austin Amelio (Dwight) moving from the main show over to ‘Fear The Walking Dead.’
