Jeffrey Dean Morgan Cast As Negan In AMC’s The Walking Dead
2 min readThis is big, bad news guys. As a faithful reader of the Walking Dead comic series, I know what this casting brings to the series, and it’s nothing but badness. Jeffrey Dean Morgan beat out several other actors to land the role of Negan, who is one of, if not the biggest villains in the TWD universe. If Morgan’s name sounds familiar, it’s because you may recognize him from his role as The Comedian in ‘The Watchmen’ or as Denny Duquette in Grey’s Anatomy.
Negan is the leader of a giant group of survivors who call themselves “The Saviors.” They basically offer protection from humans and walkers alike, in exchange for a vow to scavenge for them. If you break that vow, they bring relentless death and destruction your way. His most familiar traits are the bloody, barbed-wire covered bat he carries around, and his penchant for curse words unlike any other villain on the show. Those familiar with the comic know that Negan is responsible for one of the most gruesome yet iconic deaths in the Walking Dead universe, and I’m sure it’ll translate over to the show. The question is now is, will they recreate that death EXACTLY like it was in the comics, or will they swap characters around like they did with Dale, Hershel, and Tyreese?
If you thought The Governor was bad, just wait until you see Negan in action. TWD producers plan on debuting the new character at the end of season 6, so if you thought you’d get a slight emotional break, you thought wrong. If you’re interested in just how bad Negan is, go to your local comic retailer, or comic app, and search for issue 100 of The Walking Dead.
