Google Buys Nest For $3.2 Billion
1 min readNest Labs, the maker of some pretty sweet smart thermostats, and most recently smart smoke detectors has reportedly been acquired by Google. In a story that came completely out of left field, Google has apparently purchased Nest for a cool $3.2 Billion. Google promised more moon shoots last year, and one has to think that the developers from Nest will eventually help play a larger role within the company. For the time being though, Nest will still be its own separate company, and the mobile app will continue to operate on BOTH iOS and Android devices.
I’m assuming that the ultimate goal will be to integrate Nest Thermostats and Nest Protect smoke detectors fully into the Android ecosystem, with some sort of advanced functionality being exclusive to Android devices. While this news is still fairly new, this may be one of the larger stories of the day. We’ll keep you posted as this story develops.
Big news! @Google acquiring Nest to help fulfill our goal of reinventing unloved home products. Nest will stay Nest. http://t.co/0L8hNBhmYc
