Surface Pro 4 And Surface Book Debut At Microsoft Event

3 min read

As if it couldn’t get any more clearer, Microsoft made it evident today that they were going after Apple. Riding on the surging sales of their Surface tablet, Microsoft appeared as confident as ever during their press event. This was far from a normal Microsoft event too. The look, the feel, the vibe, everything about this event spoke volumes about an infinitely more confident group of people. The products that were on display today also spoke volumes about a different Microsoft. A Microsoft that isn’t just content with competing, rather one that wants to win. Everything working harmoniously together, hardware and software, in one glorious unison.

Let’s start with perhaps the biggest announcement of the day, which was the Surface Book. Terrible name aside, the Microsoft Book could very well be the computer to beat for the upcoming year. Microsoft took essentially every good thing about Apple’s line of MacBook Pro laptops and made it their own. Not only does the laptop look as good as a MacBook Pro, but Microsoft is claiming that that it’ll flat-out outperform one as well. Rocking some seriously next-gen specs, Microsoft may have built the first non custom built laptop that has the ability to cater to every crowd. Gamers, content creators, newbies, hipsters, everyone could use this machine. For starters, the Surface Book has a screen size of 13.5 inches, with a resolution of 3000X2000. There’s also a 5MP camera up front for video calls, and an 8MP rear camera. That’s right, the Surface Book has two cameras on it, largely because the screen can also be detached from the keyboard making this thing ultra portable. On the inside lies a 6th generation Intel i5 or i7 processor, between 128GB to a maximum 1TB hard drive, graphics acceleration, and NVIDIA GeForce GPU. Rounding out the features on the Surface Book is the machined Magnesium body, an integrated backlit keyboard, full sized SD slot, 2 USB 3.0 ports, and a 5-point multi touch precision glass trackpad. The Surface Book starts shipping on October 26th, and preorders started early today. Configurations start at $1,499.

The Surface Book wasn’t the only thing that Microsoft had up their sleeve, however. They also unveiled an all new Surface tablet, which will more than likely look to compete directly with Apple’s new iPad Pro. The Surface Pro 4 packs a ton of bang for the buck, and is a considerable upgrade in tech over last years model. There are 4 different configurations available, and the price starts at $899. This Surface is every bit as powerful as some of the higher end laptops on the market, and Microsoft made no bones about making that known. The Surface Pro runs a full version of Windows 10 pro, which gives it a huge OS edge over the upcoming iPad Pro. The same Intel i5 and i7 processors will be available on the Surface Pro 4, along with a lower end m3, for those not too concerned with raw computing power.

Armed with these two devices and new version of Windows OS, Microsoft seems primed for a most spectacular comeback. Both new Surface models look pretty awesome and I can’t wait to get to check them out. The only question that remains is, which one will you get?
